Negative taken of Langston High School Senior Class, Class of 1928 in Hot Springs, Garland County, Arkansas. Students include: Attze Belle Truesdale, Fanie Trotter, Hovey Henderson, Margaret Long, Chadwick Smith, Elpher Simpson, Ruth Furgerson, Richard Dedmon, Lorena Bryant, Elminey McMillan, Daniel Page, Mercie Burger, Minnie Dedman (b. ca. 1909), Ruth Walker, Wiley Fuller, Vernon Ward, Julia Wright, Ethyle Montgomery, Edwindor Whitmore and Bernice Watson. Fanie Trotter (b. ca. 1909) married William McKenzie on September 22, 1929. Hovey Henderson (04/18/1911-10/09/1991) graduated AM & N College (now University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff) in Pine Bluff, Jefferson County, Arkansas and received a masters degree from Atlanta University, Atlanta, Georgia. Henderson returned to Langston High School, where he was principal for 35 years. Richard Hyram Dedmon (b. ca. 1906) married Bessie Lee Howard at age 22 on November 11, 1928. Born in 1910 to Dr. Will Long and Blanche White, Margaret Long Martin was the first African American from Hot Springs to win the Elks National Oratorical contest and won a scholarship to Knoxville College in Knoxville, Knox County, Tennessee. Martin went on to be a pioneer in education as a teacher at Langston High School for 16 years, Principal of Douglas School from 1949-1967, the first African American sent to Europe by the United States to study education in 1964 and the first African American woman elected to the Hot Springs School District in 1972. Additionally, she was the first African American in the Peace Corps to head the Teachers Corps and she was the first African American Justice of the Peace for Garland County in 1972.
